Risk assessment & method statements
Risk assessments and RAMS that match the work
Clear risk assessments, method statements and safe systems of work built around the actual task, equipment, people and working environment — not generic documents that look reassuring but miss the hazards.
The practical approach
Useful documentation starts with understanding the job
A risk assessment should identify significant hazards, who could be harmed and the controls required. A method statement then explains a safe, practical sequence for carrying out the work. Used together, they help supervisors brief teams and check whether the planned controls are in place.
We work with the client to understand the activity, site constraints, equipment and existing controls. The resulting documents aim to be readable enough for the people doing the job while meeting the information needs of managers, principal contractors and customers.
What the work can cover
- Task-specific hazard identification and assessment of relevant risks.
- Suitable control measures using the hierarchy of control.
- Initial and residual risk ratings where a scoring matrix adds value.
- Safe sequences of work, supervision and competence requirements.
- Plant, access, manual handling, traffic and interface risks where relevant.
- Briefing, review, revision and sign-off arrangements for changing conditions.
How it works
From initial brief to usable RAMS
- Discuss the task and obtain drawings, procedures, site information or existing assessments where available.
- Identify significant activities, interfaces and foreseeable abnormal conditions.
- Prepare the assessment and method statement, then confirm practical details with the people controlling the work.
- Update for material changes and make sure the current version reaches the relevant workforce.
Can one generic RAMS document cover every site?
Not reliably. A core method may be reusable, but site layout, interfaces, access, equipment and client requirements often need explicit checks and amendments. Site-specific information is what makes the document useful.
